ECH Family Craft Night
The Early Childhood morning and afternoon preschool classes came together at West Elementary for a family craft night. The program was arranged by Nona Mason, ECH teacher, and was funded by a grant from the Strengthening Families Program. Ninety-eight people participated in the Christmas themed program on Thursday, December 1. Each person made holiday decorations, book marks, and snowman coasters. Every child received also a book to take home with them.
Smart Start of Northwest Kansas is the facilitator of this program in our area. They encourage and support programs that provide services to preschool aged children. This includes day cares, as well as preschools. As described on the SFP website, "the Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is a nationally and internationally recognized parenting and family strengthening program for high-risk and regular families. SFP is an evidence-based family skills training program found to significantly reduce problem behaviors, delinquency, and alcohol and drug abuse in children and to improve social competencies and school performance. Child maltreatment also decreases as parents strengthen bonds with their children and learn more effective parenting skills."
