A grant totaling $10,500 was provided by the Sherman County Community Foundation to North Elementary School in order for the purchase of a "greenhouse" where vegetables can be grown nearly year-round by students. Principal Emmet Rudolph wrote the grant application and presented on its behalf of the foundation's July meeting. It was pointed out that the existing garden north of the school began last school term and vegetables grown are being used in dietary planning at North School. In order for the students to continue to learn more about vegetables production and growing seasons, Rudolph and faculty felt a greenhouse would be very beneficial. Mr. Rudolph noted that the greenhouse structure he was seeking to purchase had the durability ratings to withstand the blustery winds common to Northwest Kansas. Based upon the educational opportunities involved, SCCF approved the grant for North School.
