The award if for a total of $500 per year, renewable for 2 years. $250 start and $250 second semester. Monies will be paid directly to student and the college they are attending.

American Legion Scholarship

The award is for a total of $250 the first semester.

Kara Bentzinger Memorial Scholarship

Requirements: 2 year, 4 year college/university

Application process:  Fill out application, data sheet, transcript, photo, interview required, recommendation from science teacher

A memorial scholarship of at least $300 in memory of Kara Bentzinger who loved animals and science.   The student must be enrolled in science programs at any Kansas post secondary program.  Interview will be conducted after applications are received.

Requirements:
These scholarships, procedures, application forms, guidelines, and requirements will be determined by the Board of Education.  Specifics for these scholarships will be announced by the Board of Education office at the Administration office will be in charge of these programs.  You should contact them for specific questions.

Brianna Linin Memorial Scholarship

Criteria for Recipients:
  1. Applicants must be a senior graduating from Goodland High School.  (Foreign Exchange Students are not eligible to apply.)
  2. Applicants must be eligible to attend any U.S. accredited post-secondary school.
  3. Applicants should provide letters of recommendations from the following:  a teacher (current/past), a church leader and a club/civic leader.
  4. Applicant should display strong characteristics in one or more areas including:  leadership, community/church service, extra-curricular school activities or employment.

Requirements:  Plan to attend an in-state (public or private) 2 year, 4 year college university

Eileen Fortmeyer Scholarship

Requirements:  Female, Liberal Arts Major, 2.5 CGPA or higher, evidence of leadership in addition to participation in the arts, community service, and extra curricular  activities, 3 letters of recommendations- one from a teacher in the fine arts department, one from the community, one from the applicant's choice (reference is not to be a relative of the applicant)

The purpose of this scholarship is to promote and support post-secondary education for females in the field of "Liberal Arts."

Amount $500, paid to the scholarship recipient.

Deadline is April 1.

Goodland Thrift Store Scholarship

Requirements:  Northwest Tech College

Criteria and Information- Must be a resident of Sherman County, demonstrate financial need, must send a copy of a trancript and/or enrollment for must accompany application. Must have a CGPA 2.0 or higher, attach a statement of your future plans and goals and you need for financial assistance (no longer than one page), recipient must work a minimum of 10 hours at the Goodland Thrift Store after scholarship is awarded. Must be attending Northwest Technical College

$100 will be dispersed each semester, for no more than 4 semesters, with the check made to student and Northwest Tech College.

Deadline for application is March 15th.

Goodland Lions Club - CT Lindley, Butch Vandiver Memorial Scholarship and Cecil Schneider Memorial Scholarship

Requirements: 2 year, 4 year college/university

  • Merit and financial need preferred. One yearly award of $500.
  • A successful award recipient is eligible to reapply for the award each year along with the other new applicants.

Yvonne Kafka Memorial Scholarship

The family of Yvonne Kafka founded and directs the Yvonne Kafka Christian Fund, Inc. (YKCF).  This non-profit corporation awards the Yvonne Kafka Memorial Scholarships.  These scholarships are for study at a four-year college or university.  The YKCF directors establiished criteria for selection of student to be the recipients of the Yvonne Kafka Memorial Scholarships.

Procedures

2. Ask your church pastor or church leader to provide a reference. That person will receive an email with instructions for providing your reference.

Derrick Joseph Lutters Memorial Scholarship

To allow a Goodland High School graduate to pursue an education in an aeronautically related field at an accredited institution. 

Requirements:  Minimum high school grade point average of 2.5 (on a scale of 4.0) with community or volunteer service background.
Application process:  Fill out application, estimate of expenses, data sheet, transcript, no interview required, two letters of recommendation, recent photograph.

The scholarship is for one yearly award of $500. The award check will be made out to the recipient and the school after the recipient has confirmed his/her enrollment and met all other criteria. Merit and financial need preferred.

Sherman County Prosecutors Charitable Trust Scholarship

Priority will be given to those students whose educational goals are related to law enforcement, or legal education.  However, ALL students regardless of goals are encouraged to apply. If the scholarship recipient has any conduct questioning his or her character, the scholarship may not be awarded.

Western State Bank - Merlyn Stasser Scholarship

Requirements: Vo-tech, 2 year, 4 year college/university
Application process:  Fill out application, data sheet, financial need, & transcript information. Complete the interview process. Recommendations not required.
The award is for a total of $1,500 to be awarded $750 per semester based on satisfactory academic progress.  Applicants will be notified of the time and place for interviews.  Award recipient will be selected by a panel of independent judges based on completeness of application and interview.  The award recipient will be announced at graduation.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Local Scholarship

Requirements:  Parents or grandparents must be members of the local Lowell Coleman VFW or it's Auxiliary 1133
Application process: Eligible seniors may apply for this $500 scholarship.Send data sheet, a transcript and a short paragraph indicating your future education plans. You must also indicate which member of the local post or auxiliary you are applying under. Mark envelope as to scholarship application.

VFW State Endowment Scholarship

Requirements: Open to children and grandchildren of Veterans of Foreign Wars and it's Auxiliary members. The parents or grandparents may belong any VFW Post or Auxiliary in the state of Kansas.

Application process: The scholarship is for $500 - $2,000.00. Students attending technical schools are also encouraged to apply. Students who are in college or going back for retraining are also eligible to apply.

Patriotic Art Scholarship given by the VFW Auxiliary.
  • Any student in grades 9-12 who is enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States.
  • Maximum student age of 18 at time of local entry.
  • Student must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national.
  • Applicant does not have to be related to a VFW or VFW Auxiliary member to participate.

What is the Scholarship Amount?

  • The first-place winner from each state competes for national awards totaling $21,000.

What are the Scholarship Submission Requirements?

  • Art must be on paper or canvas with a patriotic theme.  Water color, pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen-and-ink or oil may be used.
  • Digital art and photography is NOT ACCEPTED.
  • Submit canvas entries on stretcher frames or canvas board; other entries must be matted on white.
  • Do not frame.
  • Art should be no smaller than 8” x 10” but no larger than 18” x 24,” not including the mat.

Tourism Scholarship

Requirements: Students must declare a major in a field that could relate to the travel industry, including but not limited to hospitality management, English, graphic/web design and/or public relations. Scholarship, which will be $500, will be distributed at the beginning of the student’s second year of enrollment in an accredited two-or four-year college or university within the state of Kansas. College, university or technical school that the student is attending must submit verification of enrollment and declared major. The student is responsible to ensure verification is submitted. This scholarship is available to all graduating students who are Sherman County residents.

Dale Price Memorial Scholarship

The Dale Price Memorial Scholarship is new for the 2015-2016 school year. This scholarship will make available $250 ($125 per semester). A Selection Committee of the Dale Price Memorial Scholarship will select the recipients. The recipients will be announced at awards assembly.
